BRITISH WINE IS NOT THE SAME AS ENGLISH WINE

Be careful, do not be fooled! Know what you are drinking, because British wine is not the same as English Wine.

Is there any difference between British wines and English wines? The answer is yes. The English wine is made of grapes grown in England and its quality is higher. On the other hand, when you see in a label’s wine written “British wine” it just means that the wine has been bottled in the UK. These kinds of wines are usually made from grape’s concentrate from other countries instead of British grapes. So, British wine, which is a kind of cheap wine made from imported grape concentrate and bottled in the UK, is booming especially in this times of crisis. Consequently, makers of English wines are extremely worried that the similarity of names between both wines could confuse customers when buying national wine trying to do an act of patriotism. According to Wine Intelligence, which is a team of market researches and strategy consultants who love wine, 63% of British wine consumers did not know the difference between the British wine and the English wine.

To my mind, English wine producers should inform in the labels that the grapes have not been grown in the UK, because the consumer might be expecting to taste the flavour of the British land. Therefore, do not let wine consumers down and inform them.

Cheers!
